From the owners of Melbourne’s Eurotrash and Berlin Bar comes another iconic offering that is set to raise an eyebrow of two. Launched in May, House of Maximon offers up late-night dancing in a psychedelically styled interior, lowbrow ‘makeshift’ cocktails and small eats (think pinxtos, cured meats and popcorn).
Maximón – Central America’s protector of lost souls – is a mythical religious figure, so how he has made his way down to the Melbourne cocktail scene is perhaps something worth investigating. Regardless of your beliefs, House of Maximon is certainly worth checking out; the interior has been collaborated on by pop-artist Dennis Ropar and real bone chandeliers from the visual artist Sara Penman.
