Aussie bartender takes on the world at the Stella Artois World Draught Masters

Waiting nervously, in a crowd of over 300 people Charlie Mudd, humble Perth bartender, took to take the stage for the ultimate beer pouring challenge, the Stella Artois World Draught Masters 2012. The Stella Artois World Draught Masters is a challenge unlike most, where draught pouring prowess, refinement and charm are key. For the last 16 years, Stella Artois has invited bartenders from around the world to demonstrate the nine-step pour before a panel of distinguished judges. The winner is crowned the Stella Artois World Draught Master and has the opportunity to travel the world, championing superior beer experiences.

Charlie from the Boulevard Hotel in Perth, battled it out in the Australian finals and was chosen from a field of over 60 competitors to travel to Montreal to represent Australia. In true Stella Artois style, Charlie travelled to the breathtaking historical Chalet du Mont-Royal, lodged high in the peaks of Montreal. In the days leading up to the event, he was treated to an array of exclusive experiences, immersed in the culture of Montreal, before the rigorous practice and preparation began.

And on the third night, the moment, Charlie and 21 other global bartenders, had been waiting for arrived – the finale. After three rounds of competition, only two competitors were left standing, Charlie Mudd and Allaine Schaiko from Belgium. Despite a gallant effort from Mudd, the Belgian took the crown. Charlie says ‘I was so proud to represent Australia in Montreal. The Stella Artois World Draught Masters was a once in a lifetime opportunity and definitely the highlight of my career to date. I have learnt even more about my passion for beer and had the opportunity to travel abroad and meet so many great people who share my passion’.

Charlie will continue to share his passion for Stella Artois and the nine-step pouring ritual in Australia. The Stella Artois World Draught Masters 2013 promises to be even more grand.
