Australian Bar Awards Tonight!

Celebrating the best in the bar business

Tonight 500 bar professionals from around Australia will descend upon Doltone House for the 13th annual Australian Bar Awards, presented by Bartender magazine.

And what a night we have in store! With pre-drinks presented by the lovely fellas from Trolley’d Bars, fussy bar industry personnel will enjoy sunset drinks on the deck, sipping on Cuba Libras, Penicillins, Manahattans, Tommy’s Margaritas and Gimlets. It looks set to be an amazing shindig.

Accomplished MC Stu Gregor (Liquid Ideas) is set to take control of proceedings and a bumper line-up of 27 awards will be presented tonight. This year the event has expanded to included some new state winners and a Regional Bar of the Year. These awards will join old faithfuls such as Bar Team of the Year, Best Bartenders’ Bar and Best Specialty Beer Venue, among others.

In addition to the much-anticipated awards, the year the night will be interspersed with the country’s top ten bartenders taking to the stage to compete live for the title of Bartender Magazine Bartender of the Year. This year’s event, proudly sponsored by Absolut Elyx and Havana Club, represents a whole new challenge for the eager young bartenders who are competing. After an arduous day’s competition yesterday, the ‘Top Ten’ will tonight take to the stage for just four minutes each and present their signature cocktails to a panel of judges as well as 500 of their peers. Makes Masterchef look like a walk in the park!

The finalists for the 2013 Bar Awards were announced in July and can be seen here. David Spanton, founder of the Bar Awards and Bartender Magazine, said of the finalists: “From what we can see they are the best and brightest of the Australian bar industry, drawn from a seriously talented pool who work tirelessly to keep their cities and towns at the forefront of fun – cause let’s face it, that’s what the bar industry is all about.” We look forward to seeing who takes our top honours tomorrow night.

The Australian Bar Awards are held in conjunction with Bar Week, a series of trade and consumer events dedicated to the bar business.
