Spirited Awards: Aussies smash nominations

Spirited-Awards

The finalists for this year’s Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards have been announced overnight. The top ten finalists in each category, announced ahead of the annual Tales of the Cocktail event that takes place in New Orleans, features a number of Australians in the running for the top gongs — including Australian Bartender for Best Cocktail & Spirits Publication and our editor, Sam Bygrave, for Best Cocktail & Spirits Writer.

Both Tim Philips and Jason Williams were nominated for the title of International Bartender of the Year, with Philips’ Sydney bar, Bulletin Place, earning a nomination for Best International Cocktail Bar.

Both Eau de Vie Sydney (World’s Best Cocktail Menu) and Eau de Vie Melbourne (Best International Cocktail Bar, World’s Best Drinks Selection and Best International High Volume Cocktail Bar) received nominations, as did Sydney newcomers The Lobo Plantation (Best International High Volume Cocktail Bar), Hello Sailor (Best New International Cocktail Bar) and The Barber Shop (Best New International Cocktail Bar). Sydney restaurant Porteno also received a nomination for Best Restaurant Bar, as did Melbourne’s Lui Bar at Vue de Monde.

The bar teams of The Baxter Inn and The Black Pearl have also received nods in the Best International Bar Team category, while The Attic at The Black Pearl received another nod for Best International High Volume Cocktail Bar.
