Jerk chicken? Rum? Jahh Tiger opens next week

Lucy-Forsyth-Jahh-TigerOwner Lucy Forsyth to launch a Jamaican jerk chicken and rum shack in Brisbane

Opening next week in Brisbane is a bar dedicated to all the goodness of rum — with some Jamaican jerk chicken to go with it.

Jahh Tiger is the name, and the owner behind the bar, Lucy Forsyth, said that that she hopes to bring a taste of Jamaica to Brisbane, following her trip to the Caribbean last year.

“Jamaica is known for its traditional jerk chicken, fresh fruits, flavour packed rum and charismatic culture — that’s what we hope to serve up in Brisbane,” Forsyth said.

As for what’s on the drinks list, Forsyth said that you can expect plenty of rum.

“We love rum, we love the people involved in the industry, the drinks and the different cultures that have their own take on this very global spirit,” she said. “What we want to focus on is to promote rum brands that are iconic to the Caribbean and to really bring those stories and cultures to life through these rums on the back bar. The focus to begin with of course will be Jamaica and Jamaican rums, however we are looking to carry about 20 rum trademarks from 20 countries to begin with, and just build from there.”

Quality ingredients are going to be key, said Forsyth, but they also want to have a lot of fun.

“There is an ode to lost and forgotten Jamaican classics like a Jaspers Punch on Jamaican rum, our signature cocktail which is essentially a fresh banana, coconut and pimento colada blended with lashings of Mt Gay and Myers rum,” she said.

“We are also pretty happy to be owning an 80’s disco drinks section with a re worked Blue Lagoon on Finlandia Vodka as the feature drink.

“All that being said we are still working with the mindset of quality, using fresh ingredients, premium spirits, homemade cordials, five different types of ice and serving drinks in some iconic Jamaican vessels.  We think this approach for Brisbane is absolutely perfect and will be very appealing to our target demographic of 25-45 yr old local and professional females in the Milton, Toowong and Rosalie area,” Forsyth said.

Jahh Tiger opens officially this Monday the 27th of October and is located at 3/1 Park Road, Milton, Brisbane.
