Why does your choice of whisky say about your state of mind?

Bartenders know how to read customers, and often what one drinks can tell you a bit about them. Now, recent research conducted by Dr Adam Moore of the University of Edinburgh in conjunction with the Scottish Malt Whisky Society has flipped that on its head with a psych test helping you think choose the best whisky for your personality.

They’ve created a website to help you with this, flavourbehaviour.com, and it’s based upon quantitative research with 300 volunteers at tasting events held around the globe.

They asked the participants to take a personality test based around five personality dimensions: openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. They then asked the volunteers to rate 12 core flavours in whisky.

What they’ve come up with is a 35 question personality test which when completed, will give you an idea of the whisky that suits your personality type. We took the test – apparently we’re the perfect norm (and we’re not sure who is going to believe that) and our perfect whisky is juicy, oak and vanilla (which works, but then again, we’ll drink just about anything).
