Three luxury bottlings and three recipes in which to use them

3x3-drinks
Yesterday, we took a the luxury you get served up with every Eau de Vie cocktail experience.

Of course, you don’t need access to liquid nitrogen or spontaneously combusting garnishes to taste the luxe life — you can opt for some bottled luxury, quality ingredients, and classic recipes.

East Village Athletic Club

• 20ml Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia Platino
• 20ml Yellow Charteuse
• 20ml Grand Marnier
• 20ml lemon juice

Shake with ice and strain into a chilled coupette.

It features a similar construction to the Last Word: the gin is out, and we’ve called for some rather premium blanco tequila; the lime juice has been swapped for lemon; Grand Marnier stands in for maraschino liqueur and you switch from Green Chartreuse to the Yellow. You’ve got NYC’s PDT to thank for this drink.

Vodka Martini

• 45ml Beluga Noble Vodka
• 45ml dry vermouth
• Dash of orange bitters

Stir down with cracked ice, strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Lemon peel for garnish.

Is there a more luxe cocktail than the classic Martini? We’d wager not, and you can thank old mate James Bond for popularising it. This isn’t quite to his spec — a dash of orange bitters, and equal proportions vodka and vermouth make it a little wetter than Bond goes for — but it is a surefire way to begin a great night (and possibly rob a casino or two).

Affinity Cocktail

• 30ml Craigellachie 13
• 30ml Noilly Prat Dry Vermouth
• 30ml Martini Rosso
• 2 dash Angostura aromatic bitters

Stir down all ingredients with cracked ice, and serve up in a chilled coupette. Garnish with a lemon peel. This recipe is adapted from Patrick Gavin Duffy’s Official Mixer’s Manual, 1934.

The Affinity Cocktail: it’s your rolled-gold excuse for employing fine single malts in your cocktails, and we think a distinctive malt like the Craigellachie gives it some punch.

A challenging Speyside whisky, Craigellachie was described as “old-fashioned” even in 1891 as it makes no concessions to modern-day trends and is known for its remarkable sulphuric, savoury, meaty character.
