It’s always good to see former bartenders building their own businesses, and it’s even better (if you ask us) when said business is creating drinks. That’s the case with former Sydney bartender Matt Siely.

Siely (whom you may know from previous stints at Uncle Ming’s, Foveaux, and Zeta), has launched the Sydney Beer Co. with business partner David Maronese.

Their first release is the Sydney Beer Co. Lager, which they describe as a “crisp and refreshing lager,” that is “is brewed from preservative-free, locally sourced ingredients. It’s a blend of two malts and roasted barley, creating a light hopped finish with a subtle hop aroma of melon and peach.”

“We wanted to give people the opportunity to drink a sessionable Sydney beer that matches Sydney’s lifestyle,” Siely says. “Most importantly, our goal was to create a premium beer Sydneysiders can be proud of: a great tasting, easy-drinking, refreshing lager that’s fit for Sydney.”

Some top Sydney bars are taking on the brew, Siely tells us, with Bennelong, Bulletin Place, and The Barber Shop set to range the new release.
