Take a walk down The Avenue

The northern suburbs of Sydney have come a long way in drinking terms ever since Sydney’s small bar scene took off, and it’s filtering through to larger venues. Check out The Avenue for a cocktail list that offers more than the past vodka-fruit-liqueur=something-tini formulations of old (though we reckon they’ve missed a golden opportunity to revive a lost classic in the form of The Avenue, the cocktail).

Award-winning bartender to open new Perth bar

Experienced Perth bartender James Connolly has moved on from his role at Perth’s Rockpool Bar & Grill, to open a new bar called Enrique’s. ”It’s a Spanish-themed pop-up bar in Mount Lawley,” said Connolly. “And like the bars of Barcelona we will be making the gin and tonic king,” he said.

Fat-washing, blue drinks and more at Old Growler

Old Growler isn’t such a new bar anymore, having opened up in the first few months of this year. Things are cracking along well and recently hired ops manager Jordan Blackman (also an Australian Bartender Bar Awards Rookie of the Year nominee) has put in a new cocktail list to go with the Young Henry’s beer on tap.

The bar within a bar: Bar Lou Lou

The striking thing about Bar Lou Lou is the graffiti art mural that covers an entire wall of the 30 seat small bar within Emmilou. It’s being treated as a separate identity to it’s bigger brother, with a dedicated food menu and cocktail list put together for the new, San-Sebastian inspired place.
