Hotel Tivoli is the latest addition to the Preston Bar Group’s portfolio which includes Adelaide’s Union Hotel and Bar Cuba. The 153 year old Hotel underwent a major face-lift last year to transform the venue to its current gilt laden glory. ‘The Ballroom’ towards the rear of the hotel, once a popular live entertainment spot, has been transformed into the venue’s restaurant with a shimmering gold coated ceiling, divine retro wall-mounted lamps and two huge Asian-style light fixtures.
For drinking action though you’ll be making for way through to the eclectic main bar (read antler light fittings, animal print upholstery and more gold) which is currently presided over by Owen Collin, who made the Top 10 at last year’s Bartender of the Year Competition. Collin and his team will be serving you wines from their tidy wine list, a good selection of beer (featuring Coopers of course; this is South Australia!) and a cracking selection of classic and original cocktails including the Smokey Martini (whisky, apricot brandy, grilled apricots and lemon juice). The food offering is also not to be sniffed at; modern Australian cuisine with plenty of Mediterranean flavour and some good old pub classics like the Coopers Pale Ale Batter Garfish & Chips.
