Chef and restaurateur Alex Kearns’ food reflects his desire to keep things semplice. Glebe Point Diner opened in 2007 with the philosophy of chasing the best produce and keeping it simple. The hard working chef has now made the vogue leap across the bridge to Neutral Bay to join a host of new venues on ‘the dark side’.

“We are focusing on creating an approachable and affordable dining hall,” explains Kearns. “Guests should feel warm, comfortable and welcome.” The emphasis is to let guests create their own dining experience. Under Kearns the food is elegant with a contemporary twist; a fish broth with chilli or charred whole sardines are just two choices. You could take on the 700 gram T-Bone or perhaps the New Zealand snapper with pebre salsa would suit a glass of Barbera.

The bar team works with the kitchen to create innovative cocktails with a focus on using seasonal produce. The cocktails mix classics with contemporary and there are treats like the Rhubarb Bramble; Brokers Gin, Dubonnet, lemon juice and tart rhubarb puree. The wine list shows depth and variety; Vouvrey from the Loire, Barossa GSM and a smart Vallpolicella styled wine from Freeman’s vineyards in the NSW Hilltops.
