A powerful little venue taking the Newtown area by storm is Bloodwood. It’s all about the share plates here as well so don’t think of keeping one for yourself. An assortment of small and larger sized dishes will be a perfect mix for larger groups; crispy chicken wings, prawn or pork wrapped in bean curd and served with garlic chives and water chestnuts or choose the grilled cuttlefish salad or a ‘market’ fish served with radish salad, miso and seaweed.  For wine, it should be all about whites at the moment (although the list has some great reds) and the team has a few interesting varietals to select from.

Yarra Valley Arneis, a succulent and refreshing Italian variety; Viognier from the Adelaide Hills or the other, ‘other’ white wine from the French region of Burgundy – Aligote. Any of these should be a good accompaniment to your dishes and good beers are also available with the rich and fruity Knappstein Lager a good pick, Mountain Goat’s Organic Steam Ale or an oversized can of Sapporo to help you wash down your meal.
