This new tippling haunt is inspired in no small part by the man whose name is on display and the trio of owners, Paul Fraser, George McLean and Ben Pichon, have all imitated the legend with their woolly facial hair and a strong penchant for rum.

“We wanted something quite masculine, unapologetic in its roughness, and something a little bit alcoholic, so ‘Hemingway’ fit perfectly,” explains Fraser. It’s not all books and cocktail however and the venue does indeed boast some manly fare.

Longnecks of Coopers Pale Ale, Tsingtao and Little Creatures are accompanied by macho munchies like house-made pork scratchings and chip butties layered with cheese and pickled onions. The venue certainly still offers plenty for the fairer sex too and a particularly ladylike beverage is the Hemingway’s Cup: Hendrick’s Gin with rose-and-apple tea, cucumber and a delicately spiced sugar syrup.

Manly’s latest little bar offering is open throughout the day and into the evening, and sports an upstairs dining space and cocktail lounge that you should certainly check out.
