Drinks With… Dan Aykroyd

This month’s Drinks With needs little introduction. Yet on the same token – it’s Dan Aykroyd so how can we not talk it up! This is the man who helped defeat a giant size Stay Puft Marshmellow Man in Ghostbusters and sang some sweet tunes behind chicken wire in The Blues Brothers. He’s also behind the recently launched Crystal Head vodka, so we thought it was a prime opportunity to talk to one of Hollywood’s icons.

Stella Artois World Draught Masters Competition

Does your venue pour Stella Artois on Tap? This is your chance to prove yourself against the best beer pourers from around the world.

The Stella Artois World Draught Masters is the ultimate showcase of the Stella Artois 9 Step Pouring ritual. Steeped in history, elegance and sophistication, the competition invites bartenders from around the world to demonstrate their passion for beer and serving prowess.

Editor’s Pick – Ireland; A week of pubs, saloons, distilleries & the all important Craic!

It’s a bloody long way to get to Ireland and I don’t think they had a longer flight option with Virgin! So do yourself a favour and don’t almost kill yourself trying to fit in a full tour of Ireland and get back to Sydney in just a week. Crazy! With such limited time available I decided to focus my trip on pubs and all things whiskey related, unfortunately giving their iconic castles and fabled racetracks a miss.

Lui Bar Pop-Up Menu

You’ve heard of pop-up bars, but what about pop-up menus? Well the team at Lui Bar lead by David Nguyen-Luu (ex-Rockpool Bar & Grill, Sydney & Perth) and consulted by cocktailian extraordinaire Sebastian Raeburn have unveiled plans for their new look menu.

Cocktailian – Something from the vat

If you’re a fan of peaty Scotch whiskies you’re going to love the drink that I’m featuring today. And, surprisingly enough, if you’re not a fan of peaty Scotch whiskies, then there’s a good chance that you’ll like this one, too.

The Whisky Show 2012

Presented by World of Whisky, their inaugural Whisky Show will take place at the Tattersalls…

Johnnie Walker Platinum

A lusciously rich and expertly hand-crafted blend of quality single malts and grain whiskies this platinum expression is targeted toward the increasingly sophisticated and progressive whisky consumer.

York Lane

York Lane is, by standards of a small bar, small. It’s virtually a hole in the wall, and when I was trying to hunt down this little gem I’ll admit I walked past it. Twice. That probably says more about my eyesight than anything, but nevertheless once you’re inside it’s a great little venue to hang out and enjoy a few post work drinks. Of course they’re open all day, so the night time tipple isn’t the only reason to come down – but it’s what we’re all really interested in so I’ll leave the day time vibe for you to suss out. I hear they do a good coffee.

Jim Beam Honey hits the market

Jim Beam Honey will give Australian bartenders a versatile and mixable product to incorporate into their cocktail range and this new release is helping to reshape Jim Beam’s flavour portfolio.

Your bar could win $5000!

Are you a Sydney bartender? Just create a cocktail using Chambord Black Raspberry Liqueur and a complimentary canapé, for the total set price of $20 per person.

Whisky educator hits the world wide web

David Broom is a man whose business it is to get around the world of whisk(e)y and he recently launched theworldmasterclass.com so that he might share his vast knowledge with those who dare. “The aim of The World Masterclass of Whisky is simple,” Broom told Bartender. “To educate people around the world about spirits! And whisky is just the start!”
