Old Hawkie was the key attraction at the opening of this new Balmain bar on the site of the old trades and labourers hall from the 1890’s. Indeed the bar takes it cues from Balmain’s long history with the Labor party, and the images of Labor leaders of the past adorn the ceiling. The space, created by the Riversdale group, feels very much like it’s stablemate Lo-Fi with an eclectic mix of furniture and bright colours.

Drinks, too, have a Lo-Fi connection with bartender Ben Johnson making the move to Balmain to head up the cocktail list. If you’re in need of some eats, however, they’ve got some of the best drinking food going around with a Mexican-inspired menu. Not that we think someone like Hawkie would have wasted valuable stomach space on eating when he had a yard glass before him. Solidarity forever.
