MICHTER’S FIRST RELEASE OF LIMITED PRODUCTION US*1 BARREL STRENGTH RYE

Michter’s first release of limited production US*1 Barrel Strength Rye

Vanguard Luxury Brands is proud to announce the arrival of Michter’s US*1 Barrel Strength Rye. The release will be on a very limited basis with only 75 bottles available Australia-wide, from the first week of August 2015.

A Kentucky Straight Rye, Michter’s Barrel Strength Rye is bottled at barrel strength rather than the 42.4% alcohol level of Michter’s US*1 Single Barrel Rye. The barrel entry alcohol content for the product was 51.5%, a strength that Michter’s believes will yield a richer, smoother product than a higher entry proof would. This lower barrel-entry proof is costly because it means using and warehousing more casks than a higher entry proof whiskey.

After ageing, the alcohol content for the majority of barrels of this first release ranged between 54% to 55.4%. The barrel containing the Australian allotment has yielded bottles with 54% alcohol. (The alcohol content increases during ageing as water evaporates through the casks over time.)

“Whenever we would sample right out of the US*1 Rye barrels, we loved the whiskey. We thought that our loyal US*1 Single Barrel Rye customers would enjoy tasting some at barrel strength,” said Michter’s President Joseph J. Magliocco.

Tasting notes: butterscotch and cinnamon with a hint of cherries on the nose; warming, rich toasty vanilla and caramel up front with a dry oaky spice on the finish.

Michter’s has a rich legacy of offering traditional American whiskeys of uncompromising quality. With each type of whiskey aged to its peak maturity, Michter’s highly acclaimed portfolio includes the US*1 series of whiskeys: single barrel rye, small batch American whiskey, sour mash whiskey and small batch bourbon.

And the latest news on this release: The Tasting Panel, Anthony Dias Blue and Meridith May’s publication, just awarded the Barrel Strength US*1 Rye 99 points in their July issue.
