This Sunday in Sydney, you’ve got the chance not just to voice your opposition to the the suite of liquor licensing legislation known as the lockout laws, but to demonstrate it by joining the Keep Sydney Open rally and showing the media and the state government that you’re one of many who feel the same way.
There’s been no more contentious issue in the bar industry in recent months, and the issue has, after two years of the laws being in play, gathered steam in the last couple of weeks thanks to a story by Matt Barrie that went viral.
There’s been a groundswell of support for a change in the laws — everyone from bartenders, drinkers, music lovers and more. Even talkback radio host Alan Jones and singer Natalie Imbruglia have voiced support for a change.
The rally will see a number of speakers and performances from the likes of:
Isabella Manfredi from globe-conquering band The Preatures (Speaker)
Dave Faulkner from iconic Australian band Hoodoo Gurus (Speaker)
Bernard Keane, Political Editor of Crikey and author (Speaker)
Tyson Koh from Keep Sydney Open (MC/Speaker)
Art vs Science (Musical performance)
Royal Headache (Musical performance)
The Keep Sydney Open rally is happening from 12:30pm this Sunday 21 February. Click here to go to the Facebook event page for more details.
