The national final of the Monin Cup was held last night in Sydney, with seven competitors from across the country gathering at The Whisky Room at The Clock Hotel to battle it out for the top spot.

They put on a great show as they competed in front a full room cheering them on, but it was Matthias Aso from Sydney bar, Pelicano, who elicited huge cheers from the crowd with his presentation and won the night. Aso’s presentation drew on his family’s history of baking, which fed into his drink, the Baker’s Secret, and made stellar use of the Monin Salted Caramel syrup.

The win sees Aso flying to the Asia Pacific final in Kuala Lumpur to compete against the best bartenders from the region. If he’s successful there, then he’ll head to Paris and take on the world’s best at the global Monin Cup final.
