The Top 8 bartenders have been selected to progress to the National Semi-Final in the 2016/2017 BACARDÍ Legacy Global Cocktail Competition in Australia.

BACARDÍ Brand Ambassador, Loy Catada embarked upon a whirlwind tour to judge the Top 50 entries hailing from 6 states. This was the opportunity for the bartenders to make and present their Legacy cocktail for the tasting judging panel consisting of Catada, past Legacy legends and fellow BACARDÍ Brand Ambassadors.

The competitors were up for the challenge being judged against a set criteria including taste, aroma, innovation and inspiration, all while working against the clock to prepare and present in less than 10 minutes.

Catada was captivated with the professionalism with which the competitors took to the bar saying, “They were well rehearsed, the drinks were positively delicious, and their preparation and raw passion for the competition was very exciting for us.”

The scoring revealed the Top 8 bartenders who will be advancing to the Semi Final.

The Top 8 are:

  • Dave Kerr, The Beaufort & Ike’s VIC
  • Elise Godwin, Halford Bar WA
  • Joshua O’Brien, The Bowery QLD
  • Julius Yates, PS-40 NSW
  • Piotr Kuzmicki, Lui Bar VIC
  • Quynh Van Nguyen, Fred’s NSW
  • Ryan Snedden, The Lobo Plantation NSW
  • Russell Downie, Palmer & Co
It is especially noteworthy to see individuals such as Joshua O’Brien, who has entered the competition every year since launch, be rewarded for their dedication and enthusiasm to be part of this global endeavour.

These bartenders are enroute to Sydney on 8th November for the National Semi-Final where the competitors will present their Legacy cocktail as well as the original BACARDÍ Daiquiri in front of an independent judging panel. Following this, the competitors will have the opportunity to take part in a BACARDÍ Belief Session led by the brand team to inspire their own marketing strategy for their Legacy cocktail and personal branding. The Semi-Final event will culminate at that evening’s cocktail party where the Top 3 Most Promising will be announced.

Now in its fourth chapter, BACARDÍ Legacy was established to challenge the best contemporary bartenders in the world to create their own cocktail Legacy – that will stand the test of time and join the leagues of Fred Siggins, Alissa Gabriel and Andrew Bennett in representing Australia on the international stage.

Mentored by dedicated Brand Ambassadors, these three competitors will partner with BACARDÍ to market and promote their cocktail and help these aspiring bartenders forge their place in the Australian cocktail industry.

Based on the success of their drink and overall campaign, ONE of the Three Most Promising will be selected as the 2017 BACARDÍ Legacy Australian Cocktail Competition Winner at the national final held in February 2017.

The journey will culminate in Berlin, Germany where our Australian winner will compete for the ultimate title in the BACARDÍ Legacy Global Cocktail Competition Final.
