Azabu Juban is a new bar in Yarraville from the people behind Japanese restaurant Ajitoya.

“Ajitoya has been around 5 years now. And it’s still growing,” says Azabu’s Adam Sleight. “We didn’t want to move Ajitoya coz lots of peeps love it and it’s a great space. But people wanted more. So we decided to create an extension of the business.”

They’ve taken over one of the oldest restaurants in the area and given it a big refurb, and, as seems to be the case in bars right around the country these days, there’s a big focus on whisky.

They’ve got 26 Japanese whiskies and counting at the moment, and there’s a selection of Japanese craft beers on tap as well as more mainstream Japanese options, and you’ll be able to get stuck into the cocktails here as well.

Food-wise, there’s plenty of bar-style eats to keep you sustained whilst sampling the whiskies, Sleight says.

“We do oysters, teppanyaki style eye fillet, octopus on the char, pork kakuni, grilled vegie board amongst a few Ajitoya faves,” he says.
