Watch how to make Dale DeGroff’s Yuzu Margarita

Nothing quite beats a Margarita in the summer heat. Tequila and fresh citrus — you’re certain to have your thirst quenched in short should you be sipping on one.

And the Margarita is amenable to a little adaptation, just like this number from Dale DeGroff.

DeGroff is widely considered the godfather of the craft cocktail renaissance that’s been underway for 20 years and more, having mentored and trained thousands of bartenders over the years, and reaching even more again with his books, The Craft of the Cocktail and The Essential Cocktail. DeGroff is rightly known as King Cocktail, and was in Australia in August for De Kuyper’s The Works program.

If you got to his workshops, you might have been sipping on this Yuzu Margarita. It’s a neat little twist to the classic recipe, with the super tart yuzu juice being rounded off with a little hint of agave syrup.

Take a look at the recipe below.

Yuzu Margarita

  • 4 ml yuzu juice
  • 10 ml lime juice
  • 20 ml De Kuyper Triple Sec
  • 40 ml Patrón Silver
  • Dash of agave syrup
  1. Rim half a glass with salt.
  2. Shake with ice and strain into a chilled coupe glass, or over ice in a rocks glass.
