Introducing Schweppes Signature Series Mixers: Re-imagined mixers for the modern palate

Jessica Arnott and Chris Hysted-Adams.

Jacob Schweppe created the world’s first sparkling beverage brand in 1783 introducing a world of possibility that we all continue to explore today.

Inspired by his obsession for craft, quality and fine ingredients, the team at Schweppes have now re-imagined their classic mixers for the modern palate with the launch of Schweppes Signature Series Mixers.

Each blend has been carefully created using premium ingredients sourced from across the globe to deliver a subtle yet intriguing twist that is truly crafted for your curious side.

Proudly co-created with some of Australia’s most coveted industry professionals, Chris Hysted-Adams, Jess Arnott and Charlie Ainsbury, in collaboration with their own Master Blenders, the range has been built from the ground up to pair perfectly with fine spirits.

Tell us a little about yourself and why Schweppes approached you to co-create their Signature Series Mixers range
For the last ten years I’ve either been traveling the world working with spirit brands, or guiding the team at Melbourne’s Black Pearl. I suppose considering everything we achieved as a team at the bar, and having hit a bunch of different cities in my travels, Schweppes thought I’d be an ideal candidate to help them with their new range.

How did you find your involvement in the development process?
It was awesome! We were given a great briefing into the ‘house style’ of Schweppes, and then did some pretty comprehensive flavour mapping to work out where we as a team believed there was room to play in the world of mixers.

What do you believe are the most important foundations of a mixed drink?
Great ingredients. It’s that simple. The better the mixer, spirit, ice, garnish and glass you have – the better the drink is going to be.

Why is the mixer so important?
Because it’s most of your drink!

What should others in the industry be looking for in a mixer?
Something that holds its effervescence and flavour when mixed with spirits and ice. If the bottles can be reused for other things like syrups, you’re truly living the dream.

How are the Schweppes Signature Series Mixers different to others on the market?
They’re designed to bring out the best in your favourite spirit. Schweppes know how to make mixers. Myself and the team who helped guide the Schweppes team know spirits. With our powers combined we’ve designed something we’re all extremely proud of, and will provide you and your guests with some delicious drinking experiences.

Tell us a little about yourself and why Schweppes approached you to co-create their Signature Series Mixers range
I am a self professed hospitality lifer. I fell into it at age 16 and have never really done anything else. I’ve always been really passionate about flavour being the best it can be, whether it’s a drink or dish and finding the right flavour for the right person is so rewarding to me.

How did you find your involvement in the development process?
It was really interesting – I loved the blind tasting, trying so many different brands side by side to figure out what we actually wanted to produce. This process allowed us to find out what we really wanted to make and then tweak it over several trial and error sessions.

What do you believe are the most important foundations of a mixed drink?
The right ratio and plenty of ice. A good spirit and mixer should be about 1/4 spirit to 3/4 mixer, into a glass full of ice.

Why is the mixer so important?
Why on earth, when you spend a premium on a high quality spirit, would you mix it with an inferior mixer?

What should others in the industry be looking for in a mixer?
Flavour is of course at the pinnacle of importance, but the key factors we found that influenced the flavour were sugar and carbonation levels.

How are the Schweppes Signature Series Mixers different to others on the market
There is simply no other brand that can boast the history that Schweppes can. That level of experience, paired with Charlie, Chris and my own working knowledge of what guests want in current, working cocktail bars is a pretty tough combination to rival.

Tell us a little about yourself and why Schweppes approached you to co-create their Signature Series Mixers range
I am the Spirits Evangelist for Proof & Company, Australia & New Zealand. My role has me working with bars of all shapes and sizes that are looking to elevate their beverage offering.

How did you find your involvement in the development process?
Schweppes had a lot of patience with us which was lucky! To work with three bartenders you’ll likely get three different opinions and not much wiggle room. They allowed us to be as finicky as we were.

What do you believe are the most important foundations of a mixed drink?
A decent measure of spirit, chilled mixer, quality ice and fresh garnish.

Why is the mixer so important?
It’s the majority of your drink.

What should others in the industry be looking for in a mixer?
Great carbonation, balanced flavours and a pleasant aftertaste are key elements.

How are the Schweppes Signature Series Mixers different to others on the market?
The first range of mixers advised on by professional bartenders in Australia? That’s different right?
