Fancy some sweet stuff? Indie Spirits Tasting Melbourne has brand new local liqueurs on show…

The Indie Spirits Tasting is now in its fifth year and in 2019 comes to Melbourne for the very first time.

The Indie Spirits Tasting is put on by the team from Australian Bartender, and takes place on March 31 at The Craft & Co in Collingwood. There are two tasting sessions available on the day, with only 25 tickets still available for session one which runs from 12pm to 2:30pm. SESSION 2 is SOLD OUT. Hurry up as tickets are available now — get yours here.

There will be more than 150 independent bottlings from 37 suppliers on offer to taste, from producers both local and international — it’s also the largest gathering of Australian craft distilleries under one roof.

And for some of our exhibitors it will be the first time they are offering some new stuff up for sampling. So, if you want to wrap your lips around a brand new liqueur from some of the country’s finest craft distilleries, here are just a few bottlings that will be on offer:

Carter’s Original Coffee Liqueur 20% abv

From the team behind the much-loved Applewood products from South Australia, here is a new spin on their coffee liqueur, which, according to Master Distiller Brendan Carter has been a project of pure passion that’s taken years to perfect. “we finally did so with the assistance of Johnny Scott (Mighty Mighty Coffee) – who roasts and grinds the beans for this liqueur,” says Carter.

The coffee beans they use are imported exclusively from Mexico, Brazil and Papua New Guinea before being cold-infused into a brandy-base spirit. It’s an intense coffee-hit with a vanilla, chocolate and citrus dominant characters – and a dense palate-weight that’ll stretch in your espresso martini.

Marionette Mûre 20% abv

From the team at Marionette (a bunch of veteran Melbourne bar folk who know their way around a liqueur), they have now launched Marionette Mûre into the fold. Making the most of the berry harvest in Tasmania’s Derwent Valley over summer they harvest a crop of Thornless Loch Ness blackberries which are swollen with vitamins, antioxidants & anthocyanins. These plump, juicy berries are destined for this bright, herbaceous liqueur that tastes like summer on the vine.

Blackfin Coffee Liqueur 25% abv

A collaboration between two northern beaches locals, Manly Spirits Co. & Seven Miles Coffee Roasters – passionate about coffee, spirits, native botannicals and what can be crafted with them.

This custom blend for Manly Spirits was developed to enhance caramel, chocolate and brown sugar notes. With origins hailing from far flung regions, including Brazil, Indonesia and India, the blend was optimised to balance these flavours in the cup. The roast and extraction process were further refined to achieve the best balance for use in Black Fin.
