OK, here’s the big announcement right at the top: we’re moving the date of Sydney Bar Week in 2020 from its usual slot in September.
And here’s why: with the global Diageo World Class final set to be held in Sydney in September and following a number of conversations with our Sydney Bar Week sponsors, we are bringing Sydney Bar Week forward to late August. This will allow both Sydney Bar Week and Diageo World Class the airtime and space for the industry to get involved and fully support both great events.
So mark these dates into your diary, and put your leave of absence forms in ASAP because Sydney Bar Week 2020 is on from Saturday 22nd to Wednesday 26th August.
Sydney Bar Week 2020 is set to be the biggest yet: the Bartender Magazine Australian Bar Awards celebrates its 20th year of recognising the very best of the Australian bar industry, and moves to the Wednesday (and final) night of Sydney Bar Week to end things with a bang.
And we’ve also got a few new and exciting things happening for Sydney Bar Week in 2020:
- NEW: A Proud Supporter of OzHarvest
Every Bar Awards ticket sold we will donate $5 to OzHarvest, allowing them to deliver 10 meals to those in need. Every ticket sold to Indie Spirits Tasting, Whiskey Roadshow, The Business of Bars Conference, Bartender Workshops & Future Spirits Talks we will donate $2 to OzHarvest, allowing them to deliver 4 meals to those in need.
- NEW: Two Future Spirits Talks Events (Amaro & Japanese Whisky)
Based on the success of the inaugural Scotch whisky-focused event in 2019 we are expanding in 2020 to include two Future Spirits Talks events in 2020, one on Amaro and one on Japanese Whisky.
- NEW: The Bartender Workshops
You asked for more educational events, and we’re bringing them to you. New in 2020, The Bartender Workshops offer thought-provoking talks, focusing on cutting edge techniques, creativity, and knowledge to help you be a better bartender.
All the highlights of Sydney Bar Week will be back — the Indie Spirits Tasting, the Bartender of the Year sponsored by BACARDÍ & De Kuyper, the Whiskey Roadshow, and The Business of Bars® Conference.
And there’s loads more still to be announced — there’ll be some 40-plus events taking place over five days — so for updates keep your eyes on sydneybarweek.com.au and follow Sydney Bar Week on Instagram at @sydneybarweek and on Facebook here.
