We are all very aware to the fact that our world has changed dramatically over the last few months and everyone has had to adapt in ways that were not imaginable before.
For us in the hospitality industry, this has an even deeper meaning as our profession has historically been one of human contact and sharing stories over the bar – with our customers and within our extended bar community and our family – your very own bar teams!
But, as a unified community it is evident from the response and approach some have taken, we are learning to make our voices heard and our craft seen without actually being there. We are learning to connect virtually, we are learning new skills and making new friends in the process.
One of the (many) ways that The Blend are here for you in these uncertain times is giving you, our community, access to our global network of mentors, sharing their insights and their expertise.
This month in Australia and NZ, we would have seen Lyaness, UK, touring Australia with four incredible talented individuals from their award winning team hosting interactive bartender workshops, as well as collaborative events with some of the most incredible partners we’ve had the opportunity with!
But knowing we cannot do that… (just yet, we are determined this will still happen) we’ve had to change the way in which this education and learning experience happens, from the original “face to face” setting now to “screen to screen”. So as a team of problem solvers and creatives, we’ve have come up with a way of bringing the on-trade community together through The Blends of The Virtual World.
Yes you’ve heard it first, The Blends of the Virtual World, until we can host international guests, and our local industry legends, or travel interstate, crossing ‘borders’ and have seminars, with more than 4 people in the room! This is our solution.
The Blends of The Virtual World will bring you inspiring ideas, learning opportunities and connection moments through a series of content modules, discussions and workshops for the people both behind and beyond the bar.
A continuation of learning via The Blend Platform but in your own time, your own home, with several topics, hosts and a plethora of resources available! Think of it, as your very own personal industry e-library !
We are excited to announce some of the hosts who will be taking you on this journey: Luke Whearty, Joe Schofield, Will Meredith and Sam Egerton, with many more to come. ( We can’t reveal all right now… we need to keep a few exciting names in the tank!)
Our first series will be shortly going live…. Luke Whearty , Top 10, International bartender of the Year Nomination, and Best New International Cocktail Bar, Spirited Awards.2020, is our first to launch the platform!
Last Year , The Blends of the World partnered with Luke Whearty, Owner of BYRDI, to begin a series of Meet the Producer foraging workshops whereby bartenders were taken to local producers in the Yarra Valley to experience firsthand where the commencement of the ‘food’ chain begins! The Blends of the world saw 3 sessions and with the Covid-19 restrictions in place, we just took a small divert, pivot one would say!
To introduce you to what was, before we introduce you to what is now…
Tune into Luke’s Meet the Producer video…
As we said we launch very soon (hint hint.. the next few days!) Luke’s first BYRDI at Home. Indepth modules about Fermentation, Seasonality, Fats and Oils, Texture, Acidity you name it! As part of the session’s we also want to give you access to our hosts in which live Q&A sessions will occur! So you can watch, engage, learn, then ask!
