Archie Rose Turns Whisky into Blasphemously Moreish Coffee Cocktails

There is no doubt that Australia is one of the world’s foremost destinations for coffee lovers. This is also true for whisky – quickly becoming one of the most sought-after locations for a dram or two.  It’s a pairing that when you taste it, and understand the production processes, makes perfect sense.

Archie Rose, Australia’s most awarded distillery, joined forces with Melbourne coffee roasters ST ALi to create a new limited-release coffee whisky called Blasphemy. It’s not a whisky, and not a liqueur. What they did for Blasphemy was substitute coffee into the breakdown process – instead of water. Blasphemy offers tasting notes of aromatic fruits including stewed apples, plum jam and fresh berries combined with amaretto and dark chocolate. Sure to tickle all your senses.

Blasphemy is an Archie Rose single-malt whisky infused with two ST ALi coffee blends, Orthodox and Wide Awake. It’s got big flavours courtesy of two espresso blends and six different types of malted barley. A true marriage of roasted and toasted characteristics on the palate.

“This whisky didn’t come to fruition overnight. We tried and tested every possible combination, and what I mean by that is, we’ve obviously got the whisky and ST ALi has the coffee. But they also have all the various iterations of the coffee,” explains the Founder of Archie Rose, Will Edwards.

“That’s why we landed on ST ALi’s Orthodox and Wide Awake coffee blends. Both are uniquely compatible with our Single Malt Whisky. The result? A spirit that tastes like it was created as one, coherent liquid”, continues Edwards.

Blasphemy is a welcome reminder that boldly breaking convention can give rise to the divine. For cocktails, it is a true standout. The combination of coffee and whisky is unmistakably flavoursome.

But how do you drink it? Over a big rock of ice or in a Boulevardier cocktail, like a coffee-spiked Negroni. It’s versatile and delicious.

Boulevardier

Campari in cocktails, and Blasphemy brings those big flavours together
