If you’ve been following the BBO instagram page over the last couple of months, you will have seen some familiar bar industry faces sweating it out in the gym, learning the art of the uppercut, bouncing around on their toes, and figuring out how to score maximum points with each punch.

Bartender Boxing focusses on taking everyday industry men and women – who have no boxing experience – and placing them on a seriously tough mental and physical trajectory over 12-weeks, to a Combat Sports Authority of NSW sanctioned bout, where you get to experience their hard work on stage.

ABOUT BBO

Founded by industry icon Raj Nagra, US based non-profit Bartender Boxing Org. is now in its 6th year. We’ve helped hundreds of industry people reshape their lives and discover a better, more balanced existence through boxing.

Bartender Boxing focusses on taking everyday industry men and women – who have no boxing experience – and placing them on a seriously tough mental and physical trajectory over 12-weeks, to a Combat Sports Authority of NSW sanctioned bout, where you get to experience their hard work on stage. Needless to say; there is no other advocacy health initiative as life-changing, effective in promoting personal change, or entertaining.

The programs don’t work without the will and commitment of our amateur athletes. What you get to experience on Sunday September 4th, it the output of our bartender boxers showing up at the boxing gym 3-days a week (every week) to learn the fundamentals of pugilism, performing countless repetition in conditioning exercises, sparring sessions, road work, shadowboxing, sit-ups, burpees etc.

Strict diet plans, weekly weigh-ins, teamwork, camaraderie, commitment, and mental fortitude are fundamental to performing in Bartender Boxing. For it is no small feat in getting on stage under the bright lights and putting it all on the line in front of friends and family. The excitement is palpable, the entertainment prescribed. Are you excited yet?

Follow the team @bartenderboxing and support their journey to fight night. We are a platform that is about accountability, commitment, and cause. In Australia we partner with the Blackdog Institute, an initiative close to our hearts. Proceeds from ticket sales and programming will be donated to excellent work of this incredible charity.

In the immortal words of one of the greatest boxing coaches of all time, Cus D’Amato, and words to live by: ‘To see a person beaten not by a better opponent but by themselves, is a tragedy’.

Aside from the athletes, we couldn’t do what we do without our brand partners, who align with our work in benefitting our great industry.

Ned Whisky and Grainshaker Vodka stepped up in 2021 as our primary brand partners in bringing Bartender Boxing back to Sydney and have shown an incredible commitment during COVID to better industry health through virtual training, and bringing BBO back in 2022. We are grateful for their continued support of our organization.

As always, we are proud to have Bartender Magazine as our official media partner.

And it is with great thanks to our tasty secondary brand partners in 2022:  Hickson Rd gin, Crawley’s Bartender Syrups, and Fever-Tree, who will further support a great event at Sydney Bar Week.
