Story by Mark Tarrant, Director of Operations Australia, Bartender Boxing Organization
Despite a wet Sunday night in Sydney, we were expecting a highly entertaining, well attended Bartender Boxing fight night. We had all been following a group of industry comrades in pugilist training, and they didn’t disappoint.
After months of training for the BBO Sydney Bar Week event, 600 supporters witnessed 6-incredible bouts. We played witness to the result of months of sacrifice, commitment, dedication, determination and hard work, as a dozen bartenders put it all on the line for glory. The event was streamed all over the world as watch parties gathered to follow and support their peers.
It takes a lot of work to put this type of event together. The event delivered across the board with competitive match-ups, complimented by a specular production.
A special thanks to our brand partners for supporting our cause, and Scott Reed for believing in the BBO program and managing brand partnerships.
“The crowd was electric, which made being back on stage incredibly fun! We’re so grateful for our industry showing up to support journeys of personal improvement, positive change, and in some cases – a desperate need for an outlet to redefine oneself. Through your support we were able to raise $3000 at the door for the Black Dog Institute in support of mental health.” – Raj Nagra, BBO Founder.
It really was an incredible night! Seeing the hospitality industry come together once again to support the boxers and the event was magnificent to see. The atmosphere was electrifying, and we had a huge night of entertainment. I would like to thank our primary Sponsors TSI (Ned Whisky & Grainshaker) as well as our tier 2 supporters Hickson Rd Gin, Fat Freddy’s Lager, Fever Tree tonics, and Crawley’s Bartender Syrups.
Personally, I would like to thank the boxers on the night for their stunning grit and display of pugilism. Most importantly, they all enjoyed the experience and left as better people for it.
