After officially kicking things off in July, 2021, Bowden Brewing is the dream-come-true for ex-engineers Alex Marschall and Jake Phoenix, who quit their jobs to open the space. The pair of owners and now head brewers have developed the new Plant 3 space into the brewing haven of their dreams. After countless hours of daydreaming from their desks and dreading the countless emails, meetings, empty staplers and inkless printers they desired something more.

“Brewing was always our weekly escape, a creative outlet, a passionate hobby, and even a side-hustle as we tried to live two lives” says Jake. Now after taking the leap of faith and quitting their jobs they’ve plunged head-first to make this venture more than just a dream.

Bowden Brewing is part of the Big Easy Group, which covers a large range of hospitality venues across South Australia. The savvy designed microbrewery neatly fits a 600-litre brew kit, several 1200 litre fermenters, two 120 litre fermenters for venue only batches and an assortment of perfectly stacked bright tanks which are tapped directly to the venue. The more recent additions of canning lines has seen their customer base continue to grow and has allowed them to expand their wholesale offering.

“Brewing was always our weekly escape, a creative outlet, a passionate hobby, and even a side-hustle as we tried to live two lives” says Jake.

The Bowden Brewing’s tap room includes 16 beer taps featuring their staple range of easy-drinking beers plus a few seasonal and experimental releases filtering through keeping their regular and neighbouring businesses well-watered. Bowden’s continuous rotation of beers pouring through the taps means that there is something new every week for all the craft beer lovers out there.

The kitchen at Bowden Brewing’s is home to Masa and serves up untraditional Mexican style food. Whilst Bowden’s food offering is inspired by Mexican street food, the kitchen utilises ingredients and culinary techniques from cultures all over the world that inspires Australia’s amazing food scene as we know it. As much as possible, ingredients are sourced locally and everything is made in house.

Bowden Brewing’s interior boasts a mixture of dark timber, pale cream tiles and metal caging filled with greenery. The new establishment is quickly becoming the new watering hole for many locals and offers the community of Bowden a more unique craft beer experience.
