Enoteca Ponti officially opened its doors in August, bringing a blend of authentic and modern Italian food and wines to the buzzing neighbourhood. Created by the team behind the Parisian-inspired Bistro Rex, this eatery and wine bar has taken over the old Monopole site on Macleay Street, bringing new life to the iconic location.

Restaurant Manager Jess Saffioti said, “We’re so excited to launch Enoteca Ponti at such a buzzing location on Macleay Street. It’s been a lot of hard work from our restaurant team, Ar Huis and of course, our incredible chef, Aldo, who has created a menu filled with love that we can’t wait to show Sydney diners.”

Helmed by chef Aldo Farroni, previously of Shell House Sydney, Enoteca Ponti will offer Roman classics and modern dishes with a twist, paired with classic cocktails and an Italian-centric wine list. Designed and built by the team at Ar Huis, the interiors pay homage to prolific Italian architect, Gio Ponti, the standard bearer of geometric tiles, and are reminiscent of a 1950s Roman wine bar, complete with geometric tiles aplenty, patinated finishes and tobacco-stained ceilings.

“I want Enoteca Ponti to mirror the authentic Italian dining experience – sharing great food and wine at the table with friends.”

Hailing from Tarquinia, on the west coast of Italy just north of Rome, Aldo has brought his passion for food and wine to life through his carefully curated menu, featuring classic snacks like house-made focaccia, charcuterie and cheese, innovative dishes like lasagna spring rolls with fermented chilli oil, and, of course, house-made pastas and mouthwatering mains like the 600g Westholme T-bone or salt-baked whole John Dory.

“My food, my vision for Enoteca Ponti, is to bring the Italian cuisine of my heritage and evolve it to suit a modern, global context. What better place to bring this to life than on Macleay Street in vibrant Potts Point,” said Aldo. “I want Enoteca Ponti to mirror the authentic Italian dining experience – sharing great food and wine at the table with friends.”
