With our recent interview with Mikey Nicolian, what better time to showcase some of the drinks from his other bar operation, Bar Louise? Opening back in 2022, the team from Porteno, Ben Milgate, Elvis Abrahanowicz, and Joe Valore teamed up with Nicolian of Continental Deli fame to create Bar Lousie, a kitschy and cool Euro wine bar.
The cocktail list is small and concise. Nicolian says there are cocktails but it’s not a massive focus, so everything is quality but not taking itself too seriously. Think sangria, Rebujito (sherry and lemonade) and Menta Julip, which is, you guessed it, the Bar Louise take on a Mint Julep featuring rye whiskey.
Nicolian gave us the low-down on this bar, saying: “It’s a really fucking cool wine bar with a dining room upstairs. The food offering is fantastic. Traditional Spanish stuff with solid offerings in terms of bar snacks, then more substantial tapas with seafood, meat and vegetarian sections on the menu.” From first-hand experience, you can’t go past the BBQ Octopus and the stuffed piquillo peppers.

But for now, get a taste of what’s on offer with these cocktail recipes, which are just a little piece of Europe right in Sydney’s inner west.
