Few venues have left a mark on Sydney hospitality quite like Freda’s. From its beginnings down a Chippendale laneway to its evolution across different venues and formats, the brand has built a loyal following through its mix of food, music and community.
On 18 June, that spirit will land in Redfern when The Bat & Ball Hotel hosts From One Corner to Another, a one-night collaboration between the pub and the Freda’s team.
The event has its roots in a hospitality connection that stretches back years. Before becoming head chef at The Bat & Ball Hotel, Joey Astorga worked as a sous chef at Freda’s alongside Robbie Oijvall, who would later go on to establish the successful Light Years restaurant group in Byron Bay.
Remembering his time at the venue, Astorga reached out to the Freda’s team with an idea: bring some of the venue’s food, music, and energy to The Bat & Ball for a special one-off celebration.
For the night, The Bat & Ball will serve a menu inspired by Freda’s favourites, including the return of the Fish Finger Sandwich and a Cafe de Freda’s Steak special. Cocktail offerings will also draw on some of Cafe Freda’s most popular drinks.
Music remains at the heart of the collaboration, with Freda’s taking the lead on creative direction and programming. The lineup includes live performances from Manfredo Lament and Bondi Boys, alongside DJ sets from Milkpaste, DJ Crabby and DJ Salami.
Rather than a nostalgia exercise, From One Corner to Another highlights the lasting connections that exist within Sydney’s hospitality community, bringing together chefs, venues, and music programmers whose paths first crossed years ago.
Dinner and drinks will be available from 6pm, with music and dancing continuing through until midnight.
