Here’s three vodka cocktail recipes worth trying

We’re talking all things vodka online today, and here we’ve got three great recipes. First up, we jazz up the humble Harvey Wallbanger with a little technique, riff on the Tuxedo cocktail, and get an original recipe from Jonathan Carr at Door Knock in Sydney.

Harvey Wallbanger

  • 60ml Summum Vodka
  • 15ml Galliano L’Autentico
  • 90ml freshly squeezed orange juice

Juice the orange in a high speed juicer for a fluffy texture. Add ice to the glass, pour in the liquor and then orange juice.

Who doesn’t like fluffy orange juice? Just about no-one, provided they have indeed tried such a drink. Inspired by Naren Young’s technique for making the Garibaldi at Dante in New York, the orange juice gets an appealing, fluffy texture when it’s juiced through a high
speed juicer.

Kiwi As

  • 30ml Tito’s Handmade Vodka
  • 30ml kiwifruit and thyme Shrub
  • 10ml lemon juice
  • 60ml sparkling wine (blanc de blancs preferred)

Shake and strain all ingredients into a large snifter over a big block of ice. Top with sparkling wine. Garnish with a kiwifruit and thyme on top of the ice.

Recipe by Jonathan Carr, Door Knock, Sydney.

We love seeing the creativity that using a housemate shrub allows — like with the kiwifruit and thyme Shrub that Jono Carr has created for the new list at new Sydney bar Door Knock.

Vodka Tuxedo Cocktail

  • 60ml Grey Goose Vodka
  • 30ml fino sherry
  • 1 dash of Angostura orange bitters

Stir all ingredients on ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

This is a drink we’ve adapted from the Old Waldorf-Astoria Bar Book, 1935, swapping in vodka for the gin of the original. And you know what, it works; just make sure you get it nice and cold with not too much in the way of dilution.
