Whilst its flavour profile lends itself well to whisky classics, its versatility makes it great to get creative with. Three Melbourne bartenders have taken Monkey on an even wilder journey, outside of the drinks you may traditionally think to see whisky.
This year, Monkey Shoulder is giving three interstate bartenders from around Australia the chance to enter Australian Bartender of the Year at Sydney Bar Week, with their flights and accommodation covered.

It’s nearly time for the announcement of all the finalists for the 23rd Annual Bartender Magazine Australian Bar Awards, so we are going to share with you some sneak peeks in the lead-up. Today, it’s your favourite Bartenders’ Bars.
Consummate professional, James Irvine, a legend of the industry, took out top honors with his two stunning drinks – ‘Goes Na-nana-nana’ and ‘Crust off’. “What an awesome experience and another very, very fun event,” said James after the win.

The Bartender of the Year Competition which is proudly sponsored by Hendrick’s Gin & Monkey Shoulder is getting a bit of a shake-up in 2023. With a whopping prize of a trip to Scotland on offer, the format of the comp has also been changed, meaning the entire event will run over one day.
Under the guise of many names, the simplicity of the ginger highball sometimes lacks lustre beside its contemporaries. A simple recipe; whisky with a long pour of ginger ale, but with this simplicity, there is an emphasis on its ingredients.
No expense was spared with activations jam packed into the venue with everything from tattoo artists, pinky nails, Mario Kart, live acts, and a passport to delicious cocktail around the venue. As it’s been two years of patience through lockdowns, this year’s party is particularly special: One where we throw open our doors to celebrate bartenders and the bartending community.
