Five Bar named as the best small bar in WA

On Monday night, the Small Bar Association of WA d their third annual Small Bar of the Year Awards at Connections in Northbridge.

A packed out room of bartenders, bar owners and bar industry supporters gathered to celebrate the best of WA’s small bars. Three awards were presented on the night: Best New Small Bar, Small Bar of the Year (People’s Choice) and Small Bar of the Year (Critics Choice).

Both the Best New Small Bar award and the People’s Choice award were voted for online by the people of WA. The Critics’ Choice award was be judged by Max Veenhuyzen (WA editor for Gourmet Traveller as well as others), Laura Dew (community manager for Yelp) and Australian Bartender editor Sam Bygrave.

Newcomer to Perth’s King St, Old Faithful took out the title of Best New Small Bar out of a field of seven finalists.

Getting the popular vote for the People’s Choice award was neighbourhood bar, Swallow.

It was Mount Lawley craft beer beacon Five Bar — owned by the same team that recently opened Lot Twenty that emerged successful on the night, taking out the Critics’ Choice award for Small Bar of the Year 2014.
