For this month’s Blind Tasting we smuggled, begged and borrowed enough tequila to get us to Perth. There’s so many top notch bartenders over there these days that we had to jam two Blind Tastings into our short trip — keep an eye out for the amari tasting in December’s issue.

We headed down to Andy Freeman’s Darlings Supper Club for the reposado tequila tasting (after having left there at an ungodly hour the night before — blame their selection of sake for that), and found six of Perth’s best bartenders ready to do their bit — well, to taste some tequila anyway.

Reposado tequila can get forgotten at times, with the blanco style often getting a priotity in mixed drinks. With good reason, too: it’s said that if a producer’s blanco isn’t up to scratch, then you’re going to be disappointed by their aged expressions.

Well, judging form the results of this Blind Tasting, these producers are hitting the mark with their blancos, because the repos performed very well across the board.

Take a look at the results and you’ll find one of our most even tastings yet, with just one star separating all the brands. The king of agave on the day was the new to Australia, higher ABV, Dulce Vida Reposado.  Check out the results below…
