Fortune of War expands with new boutique hotel, and stronger cocktail focus

Sydney’s oldest pub, Fortune of War, is levelling up next month with the launch of Bistro 1828 and a revamped boutique hotel, bringing cocktails, and the hotel bar experience to the forefront of the heritage venue’s offerings.

Built in 1828 and located in The Rocks, the newly expanded space will feature a dedicated cocktail bar, serving classics with an Australian twist – from elevated Espresso Martinis to reimagined Whiskey Sours, plus seasonal specials crafted to match the bistro’s dining menu.

The 100-year-old oak bar is also being restored, while drinks continue to flow in the beer garden and the connecting Lock Up Bar. The Russell Boutique Hotel will reopen just in time for Vivid Sydney, offering 28 rooms above the action, blending warm pub charm with hotel hospitality.
