After closing their original venue in early October, Light Years Byron Bay has reopened in the new Jonson Lane precinct with an expanded food and drinks menu.
When the original venue opened back in 2017 it brought its fun brand of Asian dining to the main strip of Byron Bay. In this new location in the Jonson Lane precinct (a bougie selection of boutiques and restaurants just past the Sunday Sustainable Bakery) co-founders and restaurateurs Kim Stephen and James Sutherland have worked together with their team to create a new and elevated space for locals to enjoy.
“We are so proud to be opening this new venue in the heart of Byron Bay, where our journey began so that the community who helped us grow the brand can continue to be a part of its evolution.” – co-owner James Sutherland
The new offering features exciting new dishes, larger capacity and a bigger kitchen, mixed with a new perspective has allowed head chef Joachim Borenius (ex Mjolner Sydney) to produce punchy dishes in the bold Light Year style with new ingredients and flavours.
In true Light Year style, the menu has been designed to suit shared plates for larger groups to enjoy together with highlights including a prawn toast donut, salt and pepper tofu and hot and tingly BBQ lamb ribs.
With a peach colour scheme courtesy of designer Sarah Ellison, there is a delightful L-shaped bar where you can pull up a stool and grab a post-beach beverage. The drinks menu has kept some old favourites such as the ‘Netflix and Chill’ as well as the new Kiwi Matcha Margi, ensuring there is something quirky for everyone to try.
