Pirate Life Perth turns five with major revamp and all-day party

Perth’s Pirate Life Perth has marked its five-year milestone with a major refurbishment, reopening its Murray Street venue with a reworked layout designed to reconnect the space to the city and set the venue up for its next phase of trade – with a birthday blowout planned too.

After five years of operation, the venue has undergone a physical revamp aimed at opening the space, improving flow between areas, and clarifying how each section of the venue operates.

Andy Freeman, CEO of Sneakers & Jeans Hospitality says the team have been taking notes on what changes will benefit the crowd most.

“We’ve watched how guests use the space over the past five years and really listened to what they love most. This refurbishment is not about changing who Pirate Life Perth is. It’s about refining the experience, opening the venue up to the city and investing in the next five years.”

The most visible change is along Murray Street, where new alfresco seating and operable glazing now open directly into the main brew hall, removing the previous physical barrier between street and venue. The result is a more open indoor-outdoor flow connecting the venue to CBD foot traffic.

Internally, the layout has been reworked with additional booth seating, refreshed interiors, and updated signage. The Backroom has been repositioned as a sport and live entertainment space, while basement cocktail bar Deadbeat continues to operate as a late-night offering within the venue.

“Pirate Life Perth has always had multiple personalities,” said Adi Ruiz, Operations Manager at Sneakers & Jeans. “Each space now has a clearer identity and purpose, but they still feel connected. It’s a true choose-your-own-adventure venue.”

Management describes the refurbishment as a reset focused on strengthening the venue’s core offer of beer, food, and entertainment under one roof.

“Pirate Life Perth today is more than a brewery venue,” Freeman said. “It’s a cultural and social hub that brings together food, music, sport and craft.”

“It’s a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come, but also a signal to keep pushing forward,” Ruiz added. “This refurbishment is about reinvesting in our community and the future of hospitality in the CBD.”

The venue will mark its fifth birthday on Saturday 7 March with an all-day music program and a limited release of birthday beers brewed by Head Brewer Dan Fiest. The line-up will start from 3pm until late, with live acoustic sets, DJs and house music across the evening.
