A new 18-seat omakase restaurant Izy.Aki has recently opened on Oxford Street, Paddington, making this Sydney’s first Kappo Yakiniku Omakase. The former Saint Peter site has been transformed into an intimate, dimly lit hideaway where Osaka alley charm meets modern Sydney edge, delivering a distinctive drinking and dining experience.

The Interior features warm timber, soft shadows, and a counter that doubles as a live show by Chef Darren Templeman and Head Chef Bonnie Yu, creating dishes in full view, across six or ten specially curated courses.

Featuring signature dishes such as The Egg – a free-range hen egg filled with a velvety white onion purée, foie gras, smoked eel, and topped with golden trout roe, and delicate Tasmanian short spine uni.

But the spotlight here isn’t just on the food. Longtime collaborator Aurelian Jeffredo leads the bar program, curating an ever-evolving lineup of Japanese whiskies, hyper-seasonal cocktails, and sake pairings. Expect flavours like, clarified miso, smoked yuzu, and pours that match each course with precision.

The name Izy.AKI nods to a “refined izakaya,” a place, where produce and pour are in perfect conversation and where the bar is just as integral as the kitchen, representing a harmonious balance between food and drink.
