Newtown’s latest venue – Hecho en Mexico, has officially opened, bringing with it a 12-strong margarita list, a street food-inspired menu, and an exclusive collaboration with Rosa Cienfuegos.
The 90-person venue blends bold design with Mexican tradition – featuring a Day of the Dead shrine, murals, and custom lightboxes behind the bar. In partnership with Cointreau and Teremana, the margarita offering includes 12 house variations, all built on the tequila–orange liqueur duo.
The food menu offers three signature tamales by Rosa Cienfuegos – two savoury, one sweet – marking the first time Cienfuegos tamales are served in-venue. The rest of the menu focuses on tacos al pastor, tortas and other traditional Mexican dishes, developed in-house by the owners, who both have years of experience in hospitality and formal cookery.
Co-owner Jimena Muñoz says Hecho en Mexico is a neighbourhood taqueria with attitude. “We’ve built something that reflects our personalities – and having Rosa on board, along with Teremana and Cointreau, brings it all together.”
Cointreau and Teremana ambassador Jarred O’Sullivan added,“We love supporting our stockists with new venue openings, it is an honour to be able to bring great offers on Margaritas to Sydneysiders in the Inner West.”
