Disaronno and Simon Difford have announced the five Australian winners of The Mixing Star 2016.
The standard of the competition was high, so much so that they wanted to thank all the bartenders who got involved this year.
“Disaronno and Simon Difford want to thank all the bartenders for their extraordinary creativity!” they said.
“With so many unique recipes received, this year’s standard was incredibly high and whittling it down to the best ones was not an easy task. Each of the drinks demonstrated different expressions of Disaronno, thanks to the bartenders’ personal style, all the while highlighting the unique characteristics of Disaronno.”
Each of the five winners will be the special guests of Disaronno and Simon Difford at their special Sydney Bar Week event. Difford, one of the world’s best travelled and foremost experts on cocktails and bars, is coming to Sydney to give a rare and exclusive session on what makes great bars great, as well as to discuss the next style of mixing.
You can get access to this session during Bar Week as well, but you’ll want to hurry and get your RSVP in ASAP to Matteo Fabbris via email on [email protected], as spaces are filling up.
The winners, selected by Difford himself, will also become part of his new book, The Mixing Star Guide. So who are they?
Andrea Marseglia, of Melbourne venue Boilermaker House, is through with his drink for the Batched category titled The Reina’s Legacy.
Jono Carr, of Kittyhawk in Sydney got through with his Classic category drink, the Martinez Disaronno.
Joshua O’Brien from famed Brisbane institution, The Bowery, was in the Contemporary & Fun category and won through with his drink, Italian Snow.
Peter Kompes, of Geelong bar Quban, drew the Molecular category and won with his drink, Pepper & Spice.
And from Perth venue, Mad Dog’s, Phil Weber‘s drink Cut Through The Mist saw him come out on top in terms of the Tiki category.
