MAMAS Dining Group is set to open izakaya-inspired rooftop in Melbourne’s CBD

Attention all Melbourne siders, this spring the MAMAS Dining Group is shaking things up. Known for venues like Hochi Mama, Kiss & Tell, and Suzie Q, the group is now unveiling their most ambitious concept yet – a Japanese izakaya-inspired rooftop right in the heart of the CBD.

Taking over the former Madame Brussels venue, MAMAS is reinventing the space with neon lights, smoked dishes, and a Tokyo by night energy.

The drinks list will read like a love letter to Japan’s bar culture – with a wide sake list, Japanese-inspired cocktails, and Japanese craft beers.

The design by was thoughtfully curated by Directitude, and will present as a 150-seat space that opens up to skyline views, with a retro-modern fit-out. Think warm timbers, low amber lighting and the sound of hip-hop, disco, and vinyl-only DJ sets. A homage to late-nights in 1980s Tokyo.

Heading up the culinary direction is Michael Stolley, who will offer a share-style menu built around smoky yakitori,  izakaya classics, and sushi crafted by Japanese chefs.

For CEO and Director Thai Ho, the new rooftop marks a milestone moment for the group.

“This is our seventh venue and comes as we hit 10 years of MAMAS in Melbourne. To be bringing it to life in such an iconic location is something special. We want this space to channel the soul of a Shibuya night and the heart of a Harajuku day—all from the rooftop of our favourite city in the world,” said Ho.
