69 Willoughby Road, Crows Nest
It’s not everyday — or month, even — that a restaurant and bar in Crows Nest — one of Sydney’s suburbs north of the Bridge — opens with a considered and comprehensive wine list full of interesting drops and a curated cocktail list that sings, but that’s what happened at the end of October when Annata opened on Crows Nest’s busy restaurant street, Willoughby Road.
You can thank Christian Blair (formerly of Rockpool Bar & Grill, and before that Eau de Vie Sydney) for the killer drinks list; there’s enough of interest there to return again and again.
Annata was originally conceived of as a bar, but due to licencing restrictions in North Sydney council they’ve had to go for the restaurant game instead (they’re waiting on a licence which will see the bar seating take a bigger stake of the floor area). Which is quite alright, when you have a chef with kitchens like Glass, Bridge Room, and Café Paci on his resume.
