SURRY HILLS hotel, The White Horse, has undergone a revamp and a change in moniker, licensee Justin Surplice tells us. “Now we call her by her short name,” he says. The Horse, as it’s now known, has had its sombre black interiors lightened and some killer artwork applied.

“We focused on creating a relaxing ambience through lighting and kept the old school rock and blues tunes,” Surplice says. “Our good mate Sindy Sinn painted a wicked mural in our ‘Upstairs Schooey Forest’ that more reflects what we’re about – a little bit of revelry.”

(You may recognise Sindy Sinn’s work from such t-shirts as this one and this one).

Throw in an extensive selection of Australian craft spirits (“We’re huge fans of Australian single malt whisky and Australian gin,” Surplice says) and a 14-strong selection of rotating tap beers with which to explore regional and seasonal releases, and you’ve got a Surry Hills venue which we’ll wager will be a stayer.
