Opening in the last quarter of 2017 was Mr West, a bar and bottle shop in the Melbourne suburb of Footscray. Owners Caleb Baker and Josh Hodges have opened a space that champions craft beer, boutique and natural wines from home and from abroad, and weird and wonderful spirits from around the world.
But there’s a big focus on great gear from our own backyard and with the quality of homegrown spirits and beers only getting better, can you blame them?
If you find something you like, you very well may be able to take it home with you. They opened the bottleshop arm of the business in December, and they’re taking it seriously, stocking 300-plus wines, 150-plus spirits, and some 300 independent beers, according to Baker.
“100 percent of our beer is cold-stored in our numerous fridges and large coolroom, keeping the beer as fresh as possible,” he says.
You’ve got to respect a joint that respects their beers.
