These are the international guests coming to Sydney Bar Week this September 15-19

Ueno-San is coming to Sydney Bar Week, September 15-19 2018.

Sydney Bar Week is back again this year, with over 25 events scheduled for five big days of bar industry education, tastings, and parties. The timetable is live on barweek.com.au now so get there and book your tickets.

There’s a number of international guests coming to town this year, with one of the big names being legendary Japanese bartender, Hidetsugu Ueno (or Ueno-San as he is often known).

You may know him as the leading evangelist for the hard shake technique; you may know him as the bartender-owner of High Five Bar in Tokyo, a bar that has become a mainstay of the World’s 50 Best bars list; or you may have heard of him — as we have — described as one of the foremost exponents of the art of hospitality behind the bar.

He’ll be hosting a special masterclass for all of you thanks to Monin, called Bartending As An Art. In the masterclass on Monday the 17th of September at 5pm, Ueno San will will share the history, myths and secrets of Japanese cocktail culture, and you’ll get the chance to learn about his famous diamond ice carving, Japanese style shaking and sample some of his world-famous Bar High Five recipes.

Jacob Briars is coming to Sydney Bar Week, September 15-19 2018.

Another international luminary returning to Australia is Jacob Briars, the global advocacy director for Bacardi, and he will be in town to share the insights he has gained working with the best bars and bartenders from all over the globe. You can catch him at the Business of Bars Conference, and if you’re one of the bartenders brave enough to tackle the Bartender of the Year sponsored by BACARDÍ & De Kuyper, you’ll get access to a special masterclass he’s presenting after the exam.

And don’t miss Rogerio Igarashi of Tokyo’s Bar Trench, who will be hosting a one of a kind Nikka masterclass on Tuesday the 18th. Guests will take part in a whisky tasting as well as sampling the newly released Coffey Gin and Vodka, all the while getting an insight in to Japanese cocktail culture from the man behind one of the world’s best bars.
