Brisbane’s highly anticipated new restaurant and bar, Supernormal, has officially opened, offering a reimagined version of its Melbourne counterpart.
Co-founders Andrew McConnell and Jo McGann have created a space that draws inspiration from local produce, design, and the city’s unique climate, while staying true to the essence of the original venue.
“As a chef, it has always been my goal to offer experiences that are deeply reflective of their time and place,” McConnell said. “I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created here-it feels at home in this location and reflects the things I love about Brisbane”.
Supernormal offers a contemporary Australian atmosphere with a menu enriched by the flavours of Tokyo, Shanghai, Seoul, and Hong Kong. The dishes highlight the fusion of Asian-inspired techniques with local ingredients, promising a dining experience that’s both familiar and exotic.
Among the menu highlights are: Pork tomahawk with fermented chilli slaw, ginger and prawn dumplings, whole steamed coral trout with brown butter and lime dashi, and Roast Yamba prawns with shio koji sauce.
Signature dishes like the Half Crispy Duck, and New England Lobster Roll have made the transition from the Melbourne menu, ensuring loyal fans will still find their favourites.
The restaurant’s curated wine list features nearly 400 varieties, to complement the bold flavours of the food. For cocktail lovers, Supernormal ‘s drinks menu, reflects Brisbane’s sub-tropical climate.
McConnell notes that the new venue is an evolution of the original concept. “While the design sets the two restaurants apart, there is a shared DNA that runs through them-grounded in the food, the service, the drinks, and the sense of location”.
Key design elements include, carved timber bar, green terrazzo floors, warm lighting, and bamboo pendant fixtures. With views of Brisbane’s riverside, guests can enjoy drinks on the terrace, just a stone’s throw from the iconic Story Bridge.
Supernormal is open daily from 11:00am to 11:00pm, for a drink or dining experience.
