Tales of the Cocktail 2011 has nominated Sydney’s Eau-de-Vie for three awards, as well as recognising a few Aussie ex-pats for service in the drinks industry.
Last night saw the culmination of the Mixxit, Magnificent 7 Competition final with a sensational showdown between some of the nation’s finest bartending talent. With true cocktail history in mind the final took place on World Cocktail Day at the prestigious Sydney venue – ivy.

The Top 10 for the Bartender Magazine Most Influential List was announced last night at a sensational celebration held at one of Sydney’s newest and trendiest venues – The Norfolk Hotel in Surry Hills. The pub was packed out with a huge range of industry personalities for the highly anticipated announcement.

The finalists have been chosen, the duel has begun and now it’s down to you – the voting industry – to decide who takes bragging rights and a seriously cool prize as well as having their tiki mug designed and distributed to bars Australia wide.
During America’s prohibition years, clandestine tipplers got a serious taste for Canadian Club Whisky that was smuggled across the boarder in huge quantities by whisky runners. Now some 90 years on, some of Sydney’s small bars are harking back to these shady times by designing a Canadian Club cocktail and smuggling it into another participating bar so that they can take photos of themselves drinking their smuggled drink and posting stories about their ‘Smugglers Tale’.
