With the luck of the Irish Solas bar should do well. The name means ‘light’ in Gaelic and comes off as quite eloquent and romantic for a language that can sometimes have your tongue in knots. Owner Ian Kitteringham has converted the old bottle shop and flat – offering up a varied selection of tapas, beers and wines. Local artists have redesigned the wall adding a touch of flair and Kitteringham firmly steers from the helm taking responsibility for the drinks selection.

Kitteringham wants to keep the dishes mixed and varied offering such treats as osso bucco pie and a mushroom crontini. With his background in clubs and as a DJ (in self-admitted ‘younger years’) the range is eclectic and according to the boss it is suiting the locals. The aim is to create, “a warm relaxed venue with friendly service, great music and products,” Kitteringham explains. Top of the evening to you Solas – welcome to the ‘hills.
